Our Wales Our Future logo

Brechfa and Mynydd Pencarreg – We are a group of villages, farms, holdings and dwellings that nestle around the edges of Brechfa Forest. Brechfa, Abergorlech, Llansawel, Rhydcymerau, Nant Y Finn, Rhos Y Corn, Llanybydder, Llanllwni, Pencarreg, and all the dwellings in between and around. Each area has its own identity, but we all have in common our cultural heritage of Glyn Cothi, the proximity to, and the enjoyment of, the tranquil forest, with its pockets of diverse flora and fauna that blend with the conifer plantation making havens and corridors for wildlife. Some of us have lived and worked in this area for generations, others have moved here for a peaceful, simple life. All, to some extent, rely on the natural environment to boost physical and mental well being.

Our Concerns

Our villages and all the dwellings in between and around, will be adversely affected by the proposed industrialisation of both Brechfa Forest East (Trydan Glyn Cothi) and neighbouring Mynydd Pencarreg (Nant Ceiment).

If approved, those who stay will have to witness the destruction of large parts of the local landscape and suffer the disturbance of living next door to a massive construction site for years. Once operational, many will have to move away to avoid the health issues that, emerging evidence shows, go hand in hand with living in close proximity to industrial wind farms.    Concerns raised by the community include

We do not agree with the industrialisation of large swathes of Wales, when there is no proof of overriding benefits for local communities. We think the government needs to re-think Net Zero if they believe destroying large parts of rural Wales is the best way to achieve it

Join us to fight for our rural lives!

We have already had 2 industrial scale wind farms imposed on us for the financial benefits of others. Brechfa West and adjoining Altwallis, 38 turbines in all. We know the heartache of supporting community members who are facing financial ruin, some having been encouraged, with the aid of tax payers money to establish businesses based on the attractiveness of our forest and landscapes for recreation. We know people with physical and mental health issues related to the wind farms in our area and beyond. We are aware that the cumulative effect of multiple sites nearby, means most issues will be compounded.
