This group is set up to oppose Trydan Glyn Cothi’s industrial wind farm project. We understand the benefits of renewable energy. Our preference is for on-shore wind, (if it is necessary), to be local and proportionate, community schemes. We are against badly designed and ill-conceived industrial schemes that do wanton irreparable damage to the local environment, economy, history and ecology in the name of profit. Communities that host these schemes should be the ones who receive meaningful benefits.
We belong to an alliance. A wider group, facing similar issues in other parts of rural Wales. We are working together to secure a better future, for communities, landscape and environment. We are asking Welsh Government to consider a new, more stable economic plan that does not involve industrialising large parts of our countryside and negatively impacting rural communities.
About our community
The villages of Brechfa, Abergorlech, Llansawel, Rhydcymerau, Nant Y Finn, Rhos Y Corn, Llanybydder and Llanllwni, along with many farms, holdings and dwellings, nestle around the edges of Brechfa Forest. Each area has its own identity, but we all have in common our cultural heritage of Glyn Cothi, the ancient name for this forest. We share proximity to, and the enjoyment of, the tranquil forest and surrounding countryside. It is here that pockets of diverse flora and fauna, that blend with the conifer plantation, make havens and corridors for wildlife. Some of us have lived and worked in this area for generations, others have moved here for a peaceful, simple life. All, to some extent, rely on the natural environment to boost physical and mental well being. We want to preserve this special environment for future generations.
Our Concerns
Our villages and the many outlying properties, will be adversely affected by the proposed industrialisation Brechfa Forest East (Glyn Cothi)..
If approved, those who stay will have to witness the destruction of large parts of the local landscape and suffer the disturbance of living next door to a massive construction site for years. Once operational, many will have to move away to avoid the health issues that, emerging evidence shows, go hand in hand with living in close proximity to industrial wind farms. Concerns raised by the community include
We do not agree with the industrialisation of large swathes of Wales, when there is no proof of overriding benefits for local communities. We think the government needs to re-think Net Zero if they believe destroying large parts of rural Wales is the best way to achieve it
Join us to fight for our rural lives!
We have already had 2 industrial scale wind farms imposed on us for the financial benefits of others. Brechfa West and adjoining Altwallis, 38 turbines in all. We know the heartache of supporting community members who are facing financial ruin, some having previously been encouraged, with the aid of tax payers money, to establish businesses based on the attractiveness of our forest and landscapes for recreation. We know people with physical and mental health issues related to the wind farms in our area and beyond. We are aware that the cumulative effect of multiple sites nearby, means most issues will be compounded.
We plan to fight now, so that many more do not have to suffer similar experiences. Join our campaign if you want your voice to be heard.
