Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru – Questions Nov. 2025

The Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru – Glyn Cothi consultations occurred in early November 2025

We had our campaign stand. outside each of the three events to provide support and information.

The following questions were designed to prompt your thoughts on what is important to you. .

  1. Is there any public access to the estimated cost of the development?
  2. I understand the project will not be able to acquire full funding from the public purse. Are
you planning to bring in outside investors to part fund the project to the point of
    commissioning the windfarm?
  3. Have you considered how Bute/GreenGen’s projected plans to erect 13 wind turbines at
Nantceiment, Pengarreg (5km south of Lampeter) impact on those living close to both
    projects?
  4. How would this impact on the latest sustainable farming scheme and the WG’s aim to
deliver at least 17,000 hectares of new tree planting by 2030?
  5. How does this impact on the WG’s 2022 plans for the development of the National
Forest of Wales? There will be a permanent loss of forest cover. The footprint of each
turbine and pylon is immense, coupled with the widening of roads and associated
    infrastructure.
  6. Have you already secured areas for compensatory planting? Where will these be in relationship to Brechfa Forest?
  7. If so, what species are you planning? Brechfa East is rich in species: pine martens, red squirrels, deer, reptiles. A more diverse range of species than Brechfa West. Anapplication for a windfarm here was turned down a few years ago. What’s changed?
  8. How do you propose to improve habitat and ecology when you are disturbing what is
already there when research shows that animals move many kilometers from turbines
due to the sound and vibrations?
  9. How can you ensure you don’t damage the archaeology (historic farms, tracks, walls and
older remains). How do you safeguard the Public Right of Ways?
  10. How does TGC think the project will impact local businesses, such as tourism?
  11. Has the impact been considered on the WG’s Strategy to improve mental health and
wellbeing? (10 year Strategy to Improve Mental Health and Wellbeing pub April 2025)
  12. Have you looked into and assessed the many recent studies on infrasound and how it effects human and animal health?
  13. What strategies might you put in place to restore the countryside once the turbines are decommissioned? eg 4000 ton concrete and steel bases.
  14. Has your feasibility study fully assessed the economic and environmental impact ofcreating access roads, transporting and erecting the structures?
  15. Has your feasibility study fully assessed the carbon footprint of the mining, manufacturing, shipping/transportation and construction of the project. Where can the evidence be found?
  16. As the government continually claims the creation of 15,000 local permanent jobs. How many local long term jobs will this project create? How have you calculated the number of existing jobs and businesses which will be lost or harmed by the development?
  17. How much are the current constraint payments, paid when the wind doesn’t blow, or blows too hard? Is TGC relying on these payments when considering the viability of the project?
  18. As Ed Miliband has just stated that the efficiency of turbines is less than initially calculated, should we be concerned that the profits projected in the long term will not be the level expected, the project may not be viable financially and create a deficit in the Welsh Government’s budget?
  19. I have serious concerns about the disturbance of the water table. Will your surveys include a report from a Hydrogeologist? If so, will this report be made publicly available for scrutiny before or after the pre-application?
  20. Can you explain why the proposed sites of some turbines are only 500m from some peoples homes? This was the minimum requirement for much smaller turbines, surely the distance should be extended for larger turbines.
